about the diary
I usually blog at Livejournal, but as I’ll be in Shanghai from late December to early February -- and China’s Great Firewall doesn’t care much for that particular blogging utility -- I’ll be posting here, via my website, until I return to the USA.
for new visitors
I’m a novelist and (former) attorney who spends most of my waking hours shuffling around in pajamas, thinking of ways to put imaginary people in terrible, awful, kinds of trouble. Good times, man.

One week left in China.

I’m still lost in the book writing, but thought I would take a break to throw up some pictures. Interview is coming along, too, but never mind about the 1/29 date -- I’ll be extending that for bloggers who post the interview and want a signed book.
Food shots are from the local market. What you’re looking at is a typical breakfast of fried and baked breads that is unbelievably good (but FAT-TEN-NING). Also, the entrance to the market itself. Inside, vegetables, fresh fish, tofu, dried noodles, meat, etc. Very good prices. A giant bag of veggies costs just about US$1.00.
It’s also snowing in Shanghai, which I can tell you almost never happens. In fact, most of China has been shut down by the weather, which is awful on a number of levels, especially because it’s the beginning of the holidays here, and people are trying to travel home.
Snow day!

I meant to blog a lot more while I was in Shanghai, but work - as always - caught up to me. I do still have some pictures to post, and will do so over the next couple weeks (along with that interview I promised), but I guess I’ll be headed over to Livejournal again. Although, I have to admit that I really like this blog format.
For those interested, I’m a guest blogger at Lifetime this week, and there are some fun video interviews up as well. Many thanks to Michelle Buonfiglio and the wonderful crew!
And thank you for everyone who’s been visiting this site to check out the pictures from China!
